Canyon Country Community Information

The city of Santa Clarita was incorporated on December 15, 1987 and includes the communities of Canyon Country, Castaic, Saugus, Stevenson Ranch, Newhall, and Valencia.

The Santa Clarita Valley is in the northwest corner of Los Angeles County and extends over approximately 400 square miles. During the last 10 years, Santa Clarita has been documented as one of the fastest growing regions in the United States. The region features clean high-tech industries, master-planned residential communities and major recreational facilities. Santa Clarita Valley's boom in population?which has grown to more than 150,000 residents?is in large part due to the valley's reputation for safety. Santa Clarita Valley has been rated as having the fourth lowest crime rate among cities with a population of 100,000 or more.

There are several institutions of higher learning in the area for Canyon Country residents. In addition to the local College of the Canyons ? a two-year community college housing several four-year college and university programs ? nearby institutions of higher learning include the California Institute of the Arts, a private performing arts school, California State University at Northridge, and the esteemed University of California at Los Angeles located in Westwood just a little more than 20 miles away.

In addition to the many colleges and universities, residents have access to all of Southern California's major amenities and attractions including the beaches, mountains, entertainment complexes, museums, and golf courses.
